Happy Friday

Last night, I had the chance to go to the exclusive preview of The Market at Santa Monica Place (thanks Jess!) which provided vip media preview and a cocktail reception.

For any ‘foodie’ or anyone who enjoys good food provided by local vendors, The Market at Santa Monica Place, newly opened (as of today), is nothing but a haven for life’s delectables. With an assortment of homemade breads straight from the oven, local gourmet cheeses, Heirloom coffee, organic meats, buttery confections, and one-of-a-kind flower arrangements, The Market is considered to be a high-end gourmet market, similar to that of San Francisco’s Ferry Building.

The Market is described to be “a collection of independently owned purveyors of high-quality, artisan, organic, sustainable and gourmet food offerings.”
I LOVE this!

Benedetta, a line of handcrafted, holistic skincare. The Lavender body lotion was my favorite.
Cheese, so many! SO good.

Samplings of the Cookie Guru. I had the change to meet the ‘Guru’ herself and she’s SO cute!

Beachy Cream ice cream, based out of Malibu, uses only locally–sourced, sustainable, and organic ingredients.

The Gourmandise School offers daily classes at the Market, everything from Croissant making, perfecting truffles, small Japanese plates, and many, many more. Its a very small, intimate kitchen and I can’t wait to try out some of their classes this summer!

I sat in on a live demonstration with Evan Kleiman, host of Good Food on KCRW, and Jonathan Gold, a reputable food critic! We made risotto, which was delicious and bacon carbonara, which I didn’t eat because it had meat in it. They are HILARIOUS!

Free small bites. Free wine. Free flowers. Free reusable grocery bags? It was a GOOD night.

It was SO great catching up and eating TONS of ice cream (it’s okay because its organic ice cream LOL) with Anthony.

Despite yesterday’s late night out, I was still able to wake up early for my morning workout and when I got home I was STARVING…

Believe it or not, after eating these THREE pancakes, I was still hungry, so I went for my fourth 😉

The bitterness of the carob and sweetness of the blueberries were perfect.

What better way to start a Friday morning than a intense workout, followed by hot cake?

Blueberry Carob Pancakes

Makes ~ 6 small pancakes (good for two people)

  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3 tbsp carob powder (cocoa powder could work too)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl
  • On a well-greased skillet (I used Pam cooking spray) over medium-high heat, pour batter and cook ~3 minutes on one side then flip and cook for another ~3 minutes on the other side.
  • TOP!

  • TJs unsalted crunchy almond butter
  • Unsweetened coconut
  • Raw Honey
